It is inspired by classic Chinese brush paintings of birds and plants. In their symbolism, pheasants represent beauty and good fortune. Bamboo represents courage and friendship. The full moon accompanying them was seen in the broad daylight at the top of Halla Mountain, a dormant volcano at the center of Jeju Island, that I climbed over a period of nine hours.
